Thermostat Repair and Installation in Kissimmee
Sometimes an AC that won't cool isn't an AC problem at all. A failing thermostat, a loose wire or the wrong settings can make a healthy system act broken. Master Cooling Mechanical tests thermostats and their wiring, replaces them when needed, and installs programmable and smart thermostats across Kissimmee and Central Florida.

Is it the thermostat or the system?
A blank thermostat screen can mean dead batteries, but it can also mean the system's safety switch has shut off power to the controls. In Florida, a common reason is a clogged condensate drain: when water backs up, a float switch cuts power to protect your ceiling and floors. Replacing the thermostat won't fix that. We check the whole control circuit, including breakers, fuses, the float switch and the transformer, so the real cause gets fixed.
Before you call, it's worth checking a few things:
- Replace the batteries if your thermostat uses them
- Make sure it's set to Cool (or Heat) and the set temperature is below (or above) the room temperature
- Check that the breakers for the indoor and outdoor units are on
- Look for water in the drain pan or around the indoor unit
Smart and programmable thermostat installation
A smart thermostat can be a great upgrade, but it has to be wired for your equipment. Many smart thermostats need a common wire (C-wire) for steady power. Heat pumps need the reversing valve wire set correctly, and systems with backup heat strips need the auxiliary heat set up right. Get those wrong and you can end up with heat in July or an expensive electric bill in January.
- We confirm the thermostat is compatible with your system before installing
- We add or correct wiring when a C-wire is needed
- We set it up for heat pump, backup heat and fan settings
- We place it away from direct sun, supply vents and other heat sources so it reads the room accurately
- We show you the schedule and app, and make sure the system cycles correctly
Thermostats for rentals and vacation homes
In rental homes, guests and tenants can set a thermostat very low and leave it there, or leave doors open with the AC running. A thermostat with remote access or adjustable limits can help owners and property managers avoid frozen coils and high bills between visits. We can recommend options and install them. See our property manager and vacation rental HVAC page for more.
Where your thermostat sits matters
A thermostat on a sunny wall, next to a supply vent, near the kitchen or above a lamp will read the wrong temperature, so the system runs too much or not enough. If yours is in a bad spot, relocating it can make the whole house more comfortable.
Signs it's time to replace your thermostat
- It's an old mechanical or mercury-style model
- The display is fading or buttons don't respond
- It loses its settings after a power outage
- The room temperature and the screen don't match, even after it's been checked
- You want scheduling, remote access or limits for a rental property
Older mercury-switch thermostats contain mercury, so they shouldn't go in the household trash. Take an old one to a household hazardous waste drop-off.
What to expect on a thermostat visit
We check the thermostat, its wiring and the system it controls, then explain what we found and the price before any work. If a new thermostat is the answer, we'll help you choose one that fits your system and how you live, install it, test heating and cooling, and show you how to use it.
The Central Florida factor
Florida systems run so many hours that a thermostat set a few degrees off, or one causing short cycles, adds up on the power bill and wears out parts. Short cycling also cuts down on how much humidity the system removes, which can leave the house feeling cool but clammy.

Common questions
Why is my thermostat screen blank?
It may need new batteries, or the system's safety switch may have cut power because of a clogged condensate drain. A tripped breaker or a blown control fuse can also cause it. If new batteries don't help, call us.
Can you install a smart thermostat I already bought?
Yes. We'll check that it's compatible with your system, wire it correctly (including a C-wire if it needs one) and set it up for your equipment.
Does a heat pump need a special thermostat?
It needs a thermostat that supports heat pumps and is wired for the reversing valve and backup heat. Many smart thermostats support heat pumps when they're set up correctly.
Why does my AC turn on and off every few minutes?
Short cycling can come from a thermostat problem or bad location, but also from a frozen coil, a refrigerant issue, an oversized system or an electrical fault. We test to find the cause.
Can a thermostat cause the AC not to cool?
Yes. Wrong settings, a failing thermostat or a wiring problem can keep a healthy system from running correctly.

“Just wanted to give a big shoutout to Jonathan from Master Mechanical! He replaced the AC unit at my rental, and I couldn't be happier. Great price, top-notch work, and he even offered a payment plan—which I truly appreciated. The new unit looks and works perfectly. Highly recommend him if you need a reliable and fair AC Tech!”

“These guys especially Jonathan are the most helpful and trustworthy people I've encountered in Orlando for home service. How many places walk thru some troubleshooting over the phone. They will be my sole hvac contractor now. The rest of the places are not independent and corporate buy outs with a different name. Give these guys a shot.”
